Raise your hand if the best part of making brownies is sneaking a taste of the batter. My mom always made brownies from a box, and they were so good—gooey, chocolatey perfection every time. That batter? It was like a secret bonus treat. Now, with this Brownie Batter Dip, you can skip the oven and go straight to the good stuff in just minutes.
This rich and creamy dip is perfect for when those chocolate cravings hit and you don’t have a baked good in sight. Where are the tahini brownies when you need them. If you are a busy mom like me, it’s right around 4pm everyday when the witching hour(s) set in...IYKYK!
It’s the perfect treat whether it’s a cozy evening or you need a fun snack to make with the kids. Pair it with dippers like pretzels, fruit, or cookies, and you’ve got an instant crowd-pleaser. Take it to your next gathering alongside my Cake Batter Dip and Funfetti Dip, and watch the table turn into dessert heaven!
Ingredients
- Cream Cheese: I use full fat in this recipe, but feel free to use what you have on hand. The Philadelphia Cream Cheese block is perfect. Just be sure to let it softened before starting the recipe.
- Unsalted Butter: Let your butter come to room temperature. I leave butter on the counter year round, so I can bake at a moments notice.
- Boxed Brownie Mix: I’ve always been a Duncan Hines girl and the classic Chewy Brownies work great in this recipe. Whatever mix you choose, make sure it doesn’t have any add-ins. In a pinch, you can substitute for a devils food cake mix.
Heat Treat the Brownie Mix
The reason we are told not to eat raw batter is two fold. The mixed batter contains raw eggs, and there is a concern over bacteria in the flour. Well, I grew up eating brownie batter any time my mom baked and I let my kids do the same.
However, there is a really easy way to make sure the cake mix is safe to eat raw. It’s the same method I use for cooking the flour in my edible cookie dough recipe.
- Spread the brownie mix out on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake for 350℉ for 5-7 minutes.
- Alternatively you can microwave the cake mix in 30 second intervals for 2-3 minutes, stirring as you go.
In either case, your goal is to raise the temp to 165℉ degrees to kill off any of those bacteria. Be careful not to “toast” the cake mix as it can alter the flavor. Then proceed with the recipe as written.
Step by Step Directions
In a mixing bowl with a hand mixer, mix the butter and cream cheese until light and fluffy.
Then add in the brownie mix. The brownie batter dip will be thick at this point. Slowly stream in the milk mixing as you go until the mixture is to the consistency you like. You want your dippers to dip in and scoop out without breaking.
If the mix is too thick, stream in additional milk slowly until you reach your desired consistency.
If you are going to make this recipe ahead of time, cover it with plastic wrap right on the surface and refrigerate for up to 4 days.
Dipping Options
The dippers are a key part of the recipe. You want to find dippers that balance out the brownie batter and will hold up when dipped. We like a combination of salty and sweet. Here are some of my kiddos favorites:
- Pretzel Rods
- Wafer Cookies
- Graham Crackers
- Nilla Wafers
- Ritz Crackers
Flavor Variations and Add-Ins
- Caramel Swirl: Once the batter is mixed up, add in a swirl of your favorite store bought caramel.
- Chocolate Swirl: Swirl in some homemade chocolate sauce or drizzle it over the top before serving for a chocoholics dream come true.
- Mint Chocolate: Chop up some Ande’s Mint’s or crush some candy cane’s and mix them into the brownie batter. Great served with Grinch Cake Mix Cookies for a holiday party.
- Crushed Oreos: For a cookie and cream brownie batter, crush up some Oreo’s and mix them right in. Other types of cookies work too.
- Chopped Nuts: If you like nuts in your brownies, now’s the time to add them in. Simply chop them up finely and stir into the batter.
Storage Tips
I like to make this dip ahead of time because it keeps well in the fridge for a few hours and up to 4 days. The best container for storage is a glass dish with an airtight lid. I like to press a layer of plastic wrap right onto the dip to ensure freshness. It
