With three busy kiddos doing all the things, sometimes you just need an easy baked pasta dish that you can throw together in minutes. Like my Lazy Ravioli Lasagna, this Spinach Ravioli Bake can be put together in less than 10 minutes and the oven will do the rest of the work for you.
Pasta is always a win in our home, and this pasta bake recipe is in hot competition with my Spinach Artichoke Pasta Bake and my Sweetcorn and Tuna noodle bake. And you want to know a little secret? You can also make this in your Crockpot and set it and forget it. Layer all the ingredients into the slow cooker, turn it on and dinner is ready when you need it!
Ingredients
- Spinach Ravioli: You can use fresh or frozen in this recipe.
- Pasta Sauce: To keep things simple I rely on our favorite jarred marinara sauce, but you could also make your own.
- Shredded Cheese: We like shredded mozzarella and you can either shred it yourself on a box grater or buy the pre-shredded kind to keep things super simple.
- Baby Spinach: Grab a bag of prewashed baby spinach and you’ll use the whole bag. It cooks down a ton.
Step by Step Instructions
Preheat the oven to 400℉ and spray a 9x13 casserole dish with baking spray.
Layer about ⅓ of the marinara sauce on the bottom of your baking dish.
Then place the frozen ravioli down in one layer.
Cover that layer with another ⅓ of the pasta sauce, half the spinach.
then cover with ½ the mozzarella cheese. Then repeat the process.
Making sure the mozzarella cheese is the last layer, cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for about 40 minutes, removing the foil for the last 10 minutes or so for the top to get lightly browned and bubbly.
Remove from the oven, let sit a few minutes then serve and enjoy!
Crockpot Instructions
In the winter months when everyone has all the things going on afterschool, my slow cooker is in use often. From slow cooker mac ‘n cheese to baked overnight oatmeal, it’s a workhorse around here.
This spinach ravioli bake can be put together right in your crockpot and then cooked while you are running from activity to activity.
Follow the same directions as if you were baking it in a 9x13 baking dish, just do the layering in the crockpot. Then set it on low for 4-5 hours and enjoy!
Ravioli Filling Options
You can now find ravioli filled with all sorts of delicious fillings in your grocery store freezer section and refrigerated pasta section. While this recipe calls for spinach ravioli, you can also change up the fillings depending on what you are in the mood for. Here a few filling flavors that will work great with the spinach layer:
- 4 cheese Ravioli
- Mushroom Ravioli
- Butternut Squash Ravioli
- Cacio e Pepe Ravioli
Serving Suggestions
- Pair the spinach ravioli bake with a big green salad, roasted broccoli or charred sugar snap peas.
- For the ultimate cozy winter meal, add another carb and serve it with pull-apart garlic bread rolls or a garlic butter monkey bread.
- As a side dish the spinach ravioli bake would pair well with a lemon butter tilapia or pesto salmon.
Variations
- Add Veggies: Add artichokes or broccoli to the dish by layering it in with the sauce.
- Add Pesto: Use dollops of homemade pesto on the sauce layers for an additional layer of flavor.
- Make it Spicy: Add crushed red pepper flakes to your marinara sauce to kick things up a bit.
- Change the Sauce: Other sauce options for baked pastas are Vodka Sauce, Roasted Garlic Marinara or a Tomato Basil Sauce. Any of them will work well in this pasta bake.
Make Ahead Instructions
☝️How to freeze before baking
Assemble the entire dish and then cover tightly with plastic wrap and then a layer of aluminum foil. Put in the freezer and freeze for up to 2 months.
✌️How to freeze after baking
Let the spinach ravioli bake cool and then wrap tightly in plastic wrap and then in foil. Place it in the freezer for up to 2 months.
❄️Bake from frozen
Remove the plastic wrap and replace the aluminum foil. Then put in a 400℉ oven and bake for 1-1.5 hours, removing the foil after about an hour. You want the ravioli lasagna to be hot in the middle and the cheese to be bubbly.
Storing and Reheating Leftovers
Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 5 days in the refrigerator. When you are ready to reheat, place in a microwavable bowl and heat in 30 second increments until hot throughout.
I like to add a bit of additional pasta sauce any time I reheat a pasta dish to keep it from drying out in the microwave.
