4-Ingredient Pull Apart Garlic Rolls (Frozen Roll Dough)
Soft, buttery pull apart garlic rolls made from frozen roll dough, garlic butter, and flaky salt. About 10 minutes of work, a long rise on the counter, and 15-20 minutes in the oven. A holiday dinner favorite.
Make the garlic butter by melting the butter and garlic cubes together in a small saucepan until they are totally incorporated. Set aside as you'll be using it in all of the next three steps.
Roll each ball of frozen dough in the melted garlic butter, then place the dough balls in a 9x13 ceramic baking dish to defrost and rise. You’ll use 20-24 balls of dough. Cover with plastic wrap or a tea towel and let rise on the counter, 4-5 hours depending on your kitchen. Save the remaining garlic butter.
Once the rolls are perfectly risen, it’s time to bake. Brush additional garlic butter on top of the rolls before putting them into the oven. Bake at 350°F for 15-20 minutes.
The rolls are done when they are golden brown on top cooked through in the center. Take them out of the oven and brush one more layer of the garlic butter on top then sprinkle with maldon salt (or another flaky salt that you like).
Notes
Make ahead: Garlic butter keeps up to 3 days. Make it ahead of time and then melt it in the microwave before coating the dough balls.
Dairy-free: Use dairy-free dough and plant-based butter.
Storing and reheating: Best fresh out of the oven, but leftovers keep a day or two. To reheat, put them in a baking dish, brush on a little more garlic butter, and bake at 325°F for 5-7 minutes until soft and warm.
Use up leftover or stale rolls: Let leftovers sit out for a few hours and turn them into a bread stuffing or a savory bread pudding.
